Why Cascais is worth the trip
Cascais was a fishing village before it became the summer escape of Lisbon's royals, and it still has both sides: small beaches with fishing boats, and elegant villas, gardens and a marina. For photos, that means variety within a short walk — sand and sea, white houses with blue trim, and the rugged cliffs of Boca do Inferno just west of the centre.
The coast faces south and west, so the evening light is long and warm, and in summer the sun sets over the Atlantic. The trade-off is wind: it can be breezy, which is wonderful for flowing dresses and less wonderful for hairstyles. We plan sheltered spots too.

A tiny cove below the town, pastel houses and cobbled lanes. Beautiful in the morning when the beach is quiet.
Marina, citadel and lighthouse
Boats, the Santa Marta lighthouse with its blue-and-white stripes and the walk along the fortress walls.
Boca do Inferno and the cliffs
Rock arches and crashing waves ten minutes west of the centre — dramatic at sunset.

Cascais session
A Cascais session costs €300 for 60 minutes, including the photographer's travel from Lisbon, with at least 50 edited photos. Add Cabo da Roca — the westernmost point of mainland Europe, 20 minutes away — or a longer beach session for a custom quote.
Getting to Cascais
Trains run from Cais do Sodré station in Lisbon along the coast and take about 40 minutes; the ride itself, beside the river and the sea, is lovely. By car it is 30 to 45 minutes depending on traffic. If you are staying in Cascais or Estoril, we come to you.
Best time for photos in Cascais
For a quiet beach and soft light, early morning. For warm colour and the sun going down into the ocean, the last hour before sunset — check the sunset times for your month. In July and August the beaches are busy all day, so we lean on the cliffs, the lighthouse and the old town.
What to wear by the sea
Light, flowing fabrics and bare feet on the sand look effortless. Skip very short skirts on windy days, bring a jumper for the evening breeze and think about shoes you can take off easily. Blues, whites and sandy neutrals always work on the coast.
